Zyloprim works by reducing the amount of uric acid made by the body.
Zyloprim is prescribed to treat gout and certain types of kidney stones.
Zyloprim is prescribed to prevent increased uric acid levels in patients receiving cancer chemotherapy.
These patients can have increased uric acid levels due to release of uric acid from the dying cancer cells.
Increased uric acid levels can cause gout and kidney problems.

Zyloprim is prescribed to patients suffering from or prone to:
- Kidney stones caused by high levels of uric acid;
- Increased levels of uric acid caused by cancer treatments;
- Gout;

Side Effects

Stop usage of Zyloprim and seek medical attention if you experience any of the following adverse conditions:
- Vomiting;
- Swelling of the lips tongue face;
- Severe nausea;
- Rashes;
- Joint aches;
- Hives;
- Fever;
- Eye irritation;
- Difficulty in breathing;
- Closing of the throat;
- Chills;
- Blood in the urine or painful urination;

Minor side effects that are more likely to occur include:
- Acute attack of Gouty Arthritis;
- Dizziness;
- Drowsiness;
- Headache;
- Upset stomach or diarrhea;

Zyloprim side effects that you should report to your health care professional or doctor as soon as possible:
- Change in the amount of urine;
- Dark urine;
- Diarrhea;
- Drowsiness;
- Easy bleeding/bruising;
- Eye pain;
- Nausea;
- Numbness/tingling of arms/legs;
- Painful/bloody urination;
- Persistent nausea/vomiting;
- Severe stomach/abdominal pain;
- Signs of infection (fever persistent sore throat);
- Stomach upset;
- Unusual tiredness;

- Yellowing eyes/skin;

Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include:
- Itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat);
- Rash;

- Trouble breathing;

Drug Interactions

Inform your doctor if you need to take:
- Thiazide diuretics;
- Ampicillin (Principen Omnipen);
- Amoxicillin (Amoxil Augmentin Trimox Wymox);

Other drugs may also have adverse interactions with Zyloprim, such as:
- Warfarin (Coumadin);
- Theophylline (Theochrone Theolair Theo-Dur);
- Mercaptopurine (Purinethol);
- Drugs used to cure cancer;
- Cyclosporine (Sandimmune Neoral);
- Chlorpropamide (Diabinese);
- Azathioprine (Imuran);

Contraindications

Zyloprim is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- If You are allergic to Zyloprim;
- If You have any other allergies;
- If You have diabetes;
- If You have had a severe reaction to it;
- If You have high blood pressure (hypertension);
- If You have kidney disease;
- If You have liver disease;
- If You have unusual diets (fasting);
