Contraindications

Meclizine is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- an unusual or allergic reaction to meclizine, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives;
- asthma;
- breast-feeding;
- glaucoma;
- pregnant or trying to get pregnant;
- prostate trouble;
- stomach problems;
- urinary problems;
- if you are allergic to Meclizine;
- if you have any other allergies;
- if you have breathing problems (asthma, emphysema);
- if you have glaucoma;
- if you have prostate problems;
- if you have seizure disorder;

Without a Prescription

Meclizine is an antihistamine.
Meclizine is prescribed to prevent and treat vertigo (extreme dizziness or a feeling that you or your surroundings are tilting or spinning around).
Meclizine is prescribed to prevent nausea, vomiting, or dizziness caused by motion sickness.
Meclizine is prescribed to prevent or treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness.
Meclizine is prescribed to reduce lightheadedness, dizziness, and loss of balance (vertigo) caused by diseases that affect the inner ear.

Overdose

Reported Meclizine overdose symptoms are:
- Extreme drowsiness;
- Loss of consciousness;
- Mental/mood changes;
- Seizures;

Interactions

Do not take Meclizine with any of the following drugs:
- barbiturate medicines for inducing sleep or treating seizures;
- digoxin;
- medicines for anxiety or sleeping problems, like alprazolam, diazepam or temazepam;
- medicines for hay fever and other allergies;
- medicines for mental depression;
- medicines for movement abnormalities as in parkinson's disease, or for stomach problems;
- medicines for pain;
- medicines that relax muscles;
- alprazolam;
- amitriptyline;
- anticholinergics;
- antihistamines;
- anti-seizure drugs (carbamazepine);
- antispasmodics;
- atropine;
- belladonna alkaloids;
- benztropine;
- chlorpromazine;
- diazepam;
- diphenhydramine;
- drugs for parkinson's disease;
- medicine for sleep or anxiety;
- muscle relaxants;
- narcotic pain relievers (codeine);
- psychiatric medicines;
- risperidone;
- scopolamine;
- trazodone;
- tricyclic antidepressants;
- trihexyphenidyl;
- zolpidem;

Side Effects

Meclizine side effects that you should report to your health care professional or doctor as soon as possible:
- constipation;
- difficulty passing urine;
- difficulty sleeping;
- fainting spells;
- fast or irregular heartbeat;
- headache;
- stomach upset;
- decreased/painful urination;
- drowsiness;
- dry mouth;
- itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat);
- rash;
- seizures;
- severe dizziness;
