Without a Prescription

Hydrea is prescribed to treat several types of cancer (melanoma, chronic myelogenous leukemia, squamous cell carcinomas).
Hydrea is prescribed in people with sickle cell anemia to reduce the number of painful crises caused by the disease and to reduce the need for blood transfusions.

Hydrea is prescribed for the treatment of various types of tumor such as:
- Hepatic insufficiency;
- Melanoma;
- Primary squamous cell carcinomas of the head and the neck;
- Recurrent metastatic or inoperable carcinoma of the ovary;
- Renal insufficiency;
- Resistant chronic myelocytic leukemia;

Warnings

Talk to your doctor before taking Hydrea and if you experience any of the following:
- Total leucocyte counts;
- Thrombocytopenia;
- Pancreatitis;
- Marked renal dysfunction;
- Liver dysfunction;
- Leukopenia;
- Kidney dysfunction;
- Impaired hepatic function;
- Hepatoxocity;
- Hemoglobin level;
- Bone marrow depression;
- Anemia;
- Allergies to one or any of its ingredients;

Overdose

Patients receiving dosages several times than the therapeutic has been reported to have:
- Violet erythema;
- Stomatitis;
- Soreness;
- Severe generalized hyperpigmentation of the skin;
- Scaling of hands and fee;
- Edema on palms and soles;
- Acute mucocutaneous toxicity;
- Swelling/scaling of hands;
- Feet;

Side Effects

Hydrea side effects that you should report to your health care professional or doctor as soon as possible:
- Change in the amount of urine;
- Chest pain;
- Chills;
- Confusion;
- Constipation;
- Dark urine;
- Darkened/blackened/reddened skin;
- Diarrhea;
- Easy bruising/bleeding;
- Fever;
- Hallucinations;
- Itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat);
- Loss of appetite;
- Mental/mood changes;
- Mouth sores;
- Nausea;
- Numbness/tingling of arms/legs;
- Pale skin;
- Persistent nausea/vomiting;
- Persistent sore throat;
- Rash;
- Seizures;
- Severe dizziness;
- Severe stomach/abdominal pain;
- Shortness of breath;
- Signs of an infection;
- Skin problems;
- Trouble breathing;
- Ulcers;
- Unusual growths/moles;
- Unusual tiredness;
- Vomiting;
- Yellowing skin/eyes;

Contraindications

Hydrea is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- if you are allergic to Hydrea;
- if you have any other allergies;
- if you have blood/bone marrow disorders (bone marrow suppression, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia);
- if you have high uric acid level in the bloo;
- if you have HIV infection;
- if you have infections that may spread to others (chickenpox, measles, flu);
- if you have kidney disease;
- if you have liver disease;
- if you have recently received live vaccines (such as flu vaccine inhaled through the nose);

Interactions

Do not take Hydrea with any of the following drugs:
- Stavudine;
- Didanosine;
- Interferon;
