Acitretin is prescribed for the treatment of severe psoriasis in adults.

Acitretin is prescribed to patients who are suffering from severe psoriasis.

Acitretin is prescribed for:
- A chronic skin condition that causes inflamed red patches with silvery scales;

Dosage

ADULTS

The dose is 25mg-50mg once a day, taken with your main meal.

Side Effects

Side effects may include:
- Yellowing of the eyes or of the skin;
- Weakness;

- Symptoms of liver disorders;
- Symptoms of blood clot;
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction;

- Sensitivity;
- Scaly skin;
- Rash;
- Peeling;
- Peeling skin (especially palms fingertips and soles);
- Numbness or swelling of the hands or feet;
- Nausea;
- Muscle weakness;
- Loss of hair;
- Liver disorders;
- Lip inflammation;
- Joint pain;
- Itching;

- Inflammation of the pancreas;
- Increased skin sensitivity to direct sunlight;

Contraindications

Acitretin is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity to the preparation or to other retinoids.

Acitretin is contraindicated if you have kidney or liver disease,

Acitretin is contraindicated if you are pregnant or if you plan to become pregnant within the next 3 years.

Acitretin is contraindicated if it causes an allergic reaction or if you have ever had an allergic reaction to other retinoid drugs like it.

Acitretin is contraindicated if you have abnormally high cholesterol or triglyceride levels.
